This collection will feature a shared world where seven princesses enter a demon world and must find a way out. Unfortunately, the only way out is a kiss from a demon prince. They will also feature the seven deadly sins. This was a fun set to create and while shared worlds can be difficult to manage, they are fantastic when it all comes together. I hope to do similar sets in the future.
You can search the collection on Amazon at the end of March.

1) What genres do you write in and why?
I love writing paranormal romance. I think I’m one of those people who’ve always wanted some magic to temper the real world, something hopeful. My last series is all about shifters, but I love just about everything paranormal! I’m also trying to break into what is becoming alternate history Young Adult with some…darker themes. 2) Describe your writing style. I’ve been told I have a slight fairy tale tone to some of my work. I always wanted the beautiful, poetic prose like Anne Rice, Maggie Stiefvater, or Tiffany Reisz, but I need a little more work lol 3) What inspires you to write? I will go isane(r) if I don’t? There are a lot of stories up in the old noggin, so If I don’t get them out, I don’t have enough room in my brain for things like…people’s names…or…what day it is… 4) Who are your favourite authors? Anne Rice, Tiffany Reisz, Tamsyn Muir, Rebecca Yarros (yes, I’m on the Fourth Wing train). I also have to shout out my amazing writing partners, Katherine McIntyre and Landra Graf! 5) Tell us something unusual about you. Halloween is my favorite holiday (see statement on magic above). It’s the one night of the year you can be exactly who you are, or who you want to be, and no one thinks twice about it. I also actually romantic subplots in movies. And I will die hard on the hill that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. If you are an author in need of services, be sure to check out our sister site - SKG Author Services. Half Dead is the first book in the series. She joins an elite school for the undead, but things don't go to plan.
You are a dhampir. What is that like? Being the only one of my kind? Despised by both sides? In a word - it sucks. You are at the school for a reason? Why are you looking for revenge? When someone makes you trust them, then turns on you, it can make you angry. I was tortured and hunted like an animal. Now it's time for some payback. What powers do you have as a dhampir? I am stronger than a human, but not as strong as older vampires. But I can walk in the sun. I Why take on a vampire if you are not as strong as they are? Because I have a secret weapon. One that will put an end to him and his murderous family for good. Season 2 of the Make Every Word Count Podcast will be dropping in the next few weeks. This season we are talking about a variety of topics including building your newsletter, lauching a series and what makes a good villain. We will have special guests CJ Rose, Sarina Langer, Sian Claven and more.

Excerpt
This little firebug was pissing him off. Nash Rogan narrowed his eyes at the pink-haired pyromage sitting across from him. She quirked a brow and crossed her legs, revealing a whole lot of sleek, pale thigh. A black combat boot bounced irritably. “What is your name?” Rogan repeated. “Who wants to know?” Her voice was high, clear. Cartoonish. It should not have been sexy. She blew an enormous bubble with her purple chewing gum. It popped. A fake grape scent drifted across the desk. She smiled. Rogan ground his molars. “As I said, my name is Agent Rogan. But we’re talking about you. And how you just set someone on fire.” Pale blue eyes flashed. She leaned forward and stabbed a finger at him. “That asshole put his hands on me. I told him to back off, and he didn’t.” She hesitated. “But I am sorry.” She relaxed deliberately back in her chair. The lines of her body softened, melting into a series of lush curves. She caught her lower lip briefly between her teeth. Lashes fanned high cheekbones. “It won’t happen again.” She was good. “I’m sure.” Rogan studied her. Luminous skin, sharp, dainty features, all that bubblegum pink hair falling to a small waist. Nobody looked good under these harsh overhead lights, but this little mage shone like a damn pearl. “Look, I saw what happened. It was self-defense.” Lucky for her, he’d been walking past that alley at precisely the right moment. He’d heard her protests, saw the guy’s meaty frame cornering her against the brick wall. Right before she’d lit him up like a bonfire. “And you didn’t kill him. He’s badly burned, but he’ll live.” “Great. So, can I go?” Full of remorse, wasn’t she? Rogan looked pointedly at her left wrist. “Where’s your trackband?” She folded her arms. Right. Rogan came around the desk and gently grasped her elbow. Ignoring her spluttered protests and the fact that her skin felt like heated silk beneath his fingers, he steered her firmly out of the interrogation room. Magical Law Enforcement was a hive of activity, even at this hour. Agents bustled back and forth, their royal blue uniforms vivid against the bright white corridor. The glowing blue threads of Vortech security wires ran the length of the walls, pulsing gently. MLE headquarters was famous for its marriage of magic and human tech. Rogan led his little captive past the holding cells, ignoring the catcalls of the junkies and drunks. “You’ll be fitted with a standard-issue MLE trackband registered to your name. If you refuse to provide one, you’ll be registered as Jane Doe.” It had been a while since he’d brought in an unregistered mage, but the script flowed effortlessly. “Should you perform aggressive magic, your trackband will alert authorities, at which time MLE agents will arrive on scene. You will be charged in accordance with the severity of the offense.” He nodded at another agent, who leaped aside as they passed. Near the end of the hall, a glass door labeled Registration came into view. The pyromage spotted it and planted her boots on the shiny white tile, causing Rogan to bump into her tight little backside. He jerked his hips back, gritted his teeth, and pushed her through the door. 1) What genres do you write in and why?
Romance- Contemporary, Paranormal currently but I have sports, western, and some poetry coming up too. I like to write a variety of subgenres so I don’t get bored with one. 2) Describe your writing style I would describe my writing as up close and personal. I prefer first person dual point of views that border on slice of life. I also prefer to write shorter novels, as opposed to longer ones so the action and timelines are pretty tight. 3) What inspires you to write? I initially started writing in college as a way to process trauma and then took a very long break after that. (Almost ten years.) I got to a point in my life again when I needed a creative outlet so I picked up my computer again and started writing as an escape from everyday life. Then, I attended a writing conference and was inspired to try self publishing. 4) Who are your favourite authors? My favourite authors are Kathryn Moon, Lillian Lark, Jim Harrison, Sarah Bailey, and Kennedy Ryan 5) Tell us something unusual about you I work in special education as well as therapeutic horseback riding as my ‘real’ jobs. While I was in highschool I swore up and down I didn’t want to work in education but here I am :D I know, I know, it's barely 2024. But I want to share a new series project that I will be embarking on in 2025 with five other authors. We will be releasing eighteen books and an anthology with a shared world featuring witches. The idea first formed two years ago and we are currently working toward releasing the anthology next January. This will be quickly followed by the books - a trilogy per author. Each author has a witch with a special ability and they each get their own story. This is a world where magic and witches are real as are other supernatural creatures. The public are aware of them, though many think of them like fortune tellers - they either believe or think it is a scam.
I am very excited for the series. My character has the ability to see the future and when she is kidnapped by a vampire, she must decide whether she should help him or lie about her visions. More on this series to come. 1) Tell us about your book Bride of the Midnight King, the first book of my Midnight Palace Trilogy, was the first romantic fantasy I ever wrote. (See below for the inspiration.) It’s basically a twist on Cinderella, but I worked out a whole complex naming convention and did a lot of world building and came up with customs that worked. I’m pleased with it. It’s a novella, as are the two sequels. I find it really hard to write longer. 2) What themes does your book explore? Love and loss. Sisterhood. 3) Tell us something unusual about your main character? Yalira is, I think, an unusual version of Cinderella. She desperately wants to get out of her stepmother’s grasp, but she also has an agenda beyond “happily ever after.” By the second book, she’s changing things in the kingdom her husband rules, and making some real progress. I like her a lot. 4) Is this a standalone book or a series? It can be read as a standalone because I never intended to write the sequels--Daughter of the Midnight King and The Midnight Queen. 5) What is next for you? I have my book for Fairy Tales in Demon Land coming up in 2024, but it’s going to be a busy year for me. I have to finish off several series—a zombie apocalypse duology set in L.A. starring two sisters. (I used a house I rented for ten years as a location), plus a final Rezso urban fantasy story about a reluctant werewolf. I am also contracted to write a Christmas movie and a Valentine’s Day movie for two different producers, which will be fun. 6) What genres do you write in and why? I started out writing short fiction that was crime-ish and noir-ish because I was going through an intense time in my life and putting dark thoughts to paper helped. But my writing mentor was writing romantic fantasy and one day I had a wild thought—Cinderella in a vampire world. And I told her about it and laughed. And she said, “Wait. What?” So I wrote it under the pen name Kat Parrish because I was still working as a reporter and didn’t want my news readers to read my vampire novels. And it turned into a trilogy. And I really liked the world. But then one wintry day about seven years ago, the wind blew down our power lines and I was in a cold rented house and started to hand-write a Christmas romance novel. (I write them under my pen name Katherine Moore.) And that started me writing in a whole new direction and I eventually earned a USA TODAY bestselling author accolade for that pen name. I’ve dabbled in horror and sci fi as well. And while I still sometimes write crime, it’s now cozy mystery. 7) Describe your writing style I mostly write in first person, past tense. Some people do really well with present tense. Oddly, I am also a working screenwriter and all my scripts are written in present tense, but it feels odd for me to write fiction in present tense. I do a lot of interior monologue. A lot. I end to use the word SO a lot. I tend to go off on tangents. If I’m interested in something, I have a character who’s interested in what I’m interested in. I write about sisters a lot, all across the genres. My little sister died 13 years ago and I miss her. 8) What inspires you to write? Everything. Weird things I read in the news. Stories people tell me. Odd ideas I have. I’m an Army brat and my family and I lived all over the place. I live in Portugal now, which is a lovely place. Living in a country not my own gives me an unusual perspective. I have been telling stories since I was eight years old and sharing a room with my sister. 9) Who are your favourite authors? Stephen King. Tanith Lee. A writer named Michael Malone who writes mysteries but also writes one of the best comic novels I’ve ever read, HANDLING SIN. 10) Tell us something unusual about you I have piloted the Goodyear Blimp. When I was editor of ORANGE COAST MAGAZINE, I went up in the blimp, and they let me take the controls. It’s like a paddle boat and it’s very loud. It was the coolest thing I’ve ever done. I’m not really adventurous, but I’ve been caving and been hiking in the woods with bears. So all of that plays into what I write. I use everything. I’ve also catered for film sets. Been a ghost writer for a celebrity chef who stiffed me on payment. Been an extra in several movies. Sung a solo in a church choir. Been in the Nutcracker Suite. About The Author
Katherine Tomlinson writes multiple genres under multiple pen names, which sounded like a good idea until she had to start wrangling half a dozen pen names. She was born in Washington, DC and raised on Army posts all over the US and Europe. An inveterate traveler, she is currently a digital nomad living in Portugal. She is very fond of dark chocolate, red roses, train travel, and cats. If she weren’t a writer, she would probably be an epidemiologist. Every year I promise myself I am going to work hard and be much more productive and I am. For a while. Then it always seems to fall apart. Are you the same? Of course for the last couple of years I discovered that this was due to my ADHD. It is hard to keep to a schedule and stay productive when you are not feeling it. And working too hard can lead to burnout. So how do you avoid that?
Well, initially, I didn't change anything, but over time I learned that if I didn't make some changes I would never get anywhere. It was always two steps forward and one step back. Here are a few of the things I changed to help me get my work completed without stressing too much over it.
Have a happy, and fun, new year. |
